We had this one book a week challenge in office and that comes to an end, I pledged 13 books and finished four serially and six are running in parallel, won’t be able to finish them in for the challenge. Was totally worth the experience, especially grateful to my accountability partner, was lovely exchanging our learnings, insights and experiences, also we did one common book!
I walked across an empty street,
Saw the painter by a house,
Painting in rhythmic streak,
I gazed at the simple art of motion,
Up and down.
I took courage, to ask them,
If I could do it too,
When they were almost done,
And a small section was left,
I approached them,
They dipped the roller for me,
It was a joyous occasion,
Painting the house,
Of course,
I messed up,
Paint dripped,
Even simple up and down,
Felt weirdly difficult,
Was a fun experience.
I collected a potpourri of learnings over the course of the month, which I am gonna spill over here. It won’t be coherent.
The Bonobo and The Atheist by Frans De Waal:
– Empathy develops in only those animals which receive parental care themselves. Like primates and chimpanzees, observations show chimps helping others in pain/need, signs of altruism, that doesn’t they won’t kill their fellow mates for power.
– Inequity Aversion: A dog will perform tricks without any treats, but as soon as it sees other dogs getting treat for performing the same tricks, it will stop performing. (Can say the same for me : D, so definitely observed in humans)
Maybe for future read:
In Praise of Folly by Erasmus
Folly as a character, as a protagonist, in our lives, how no one escapes it, how it acts a social adhesive. Overlooking at our friend’s faults or vices and even considering them as virtues, is an act of folly.
Cherkhov’s Gun:
If you see a gun in the series or movies at any point, and at that time seems trivial, but most definitely someone’s gonna get shot.
Can tell a value of a person by the enemy one makes, interesting thought.
Cheers,
Himanshi
